Design Direction

After a bit of a struggle, the Vehicle Team has decided upon a metaphor that will drive the design. The metaphor that we have chosen is the arthropod, specifically the bee and other similar insects, and its relation to the behavior of both the APT and college students. The arthropod's hive mentality and the calculated, but seemingly random, activity is mirrored by both the APT vehicles and the students that use them.

This metaphor will be referenced in both macro scale the and micro scale to create a coherent composition. A similar metaphor is used in the Mercedes Bionic, which references the boxfish in overall form as well as in the details. Check it out here :

Material and textural changes as well as surface breaks will be use to further accentuate the arthropod theme. Examples of similar treatments found in the product world will be added to the website in the near future.

Vehicle Design Team

Team structuring

After realizing that all five members of the group working on just the vehicle was not the most efficient use of our time, we have restructured the APT team into two sub-teams: Vehicle Design and Infrastructure Design.

The Vehicle Design team, consisting of Pat Healy and Jon Mills, are responsible for designing the APT vehicles (including interior and exterior).

Dave Chapaitis, Howard Chen, and Sean Denham make up the Infrastructure Design team and are in charge of the elements which support the APT service. This includes charging and storage, the vehicle ordering process, and APT waypoints, along with the physical products for each element.

From this point on, some postings may be sub-team specific (designated by sub-team heading). As always, we'll be ready for comments.

Blog available

Gentlemen, welcome to the newly available blog. Here you can post comments about the progress of the APT project, concerns, questions, etc, and we'll try to be prompt in responding. This blog layout is subject to change (we're currently utilizing a template), so hopefully soon we'll have it in line with our website graphically. With that said, welcome to the blog and feel free to start posting.

p.s. We've also got an APT Gmail account up and running, so our new email address for the purposes of this project is aptdesign.id@gmail.com. Any email correspondence can be sent directly to that address.
